ESSENTIAL OILS IN THE CLASSROOM (GERMS + STRESS = BACK TO SCHOOL)

Teacher friends, read this post for the easiest essential oil tips that will help support YOUR health (and classroom) for your most zen year, yet! And, of course, pin for later…

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

Depending on whether you were the teacher or the parent.

Dun dun DUUUUN: BACK TO SCHOOL!!!!

If you follow my Instagram stories or subscribe to my weekly email newsletter (shameless plug! SIGN UP HERE) you already know that Back to School was an especially significant week in our house as my son, who is our youngest, started Kindergarten.

I cannot overemphasize the significance of this: The Magic Schoolbus now picks up BOTH OF MY KIDS AT THE SAME TIME at the end of our driveway and deposits them 8 hours later after a full day of exciting Kindergarten and 3rd Grade activities that they reiterate for the rest of the evening with huge smiles on their chubby-cheeked little faces.

It is sheer bliss for all parties involved, I assure you.

As a teacher’s kid in a long line of teachers, though, I know there is a darker side to Back To School: End of Summer Break.

Let’s just say that for my entire youth, as soon as the Back to School clothes and school supplies started coming out in early August, my mom avoided any trips to Target for the rest of the month. She would leave the room when a Back to School commercial came on TV.

Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt. <— This grammar will make my mom extra proud.

It is with my teacher friends in mind that I asked my mom, newly retired Elementary Teacher Extraordinaire and Elementary Education Professor, to tell us her top essential oil tips JUST FOR THE TEACHERS.

Juicy, right? She taught a whole class on this a few weeks ago because she’s teacher-y like that, so I’m going to take her hard work and plaster it on the internet for your eyes. Love ya, Mom!

Teacher friends, you pretty much wrote the book on chronic stress and adrenal fatigue, so let’s get some immune and happy hormone boosting tools into your hands right now.

4 #TEACHERPROBS AND HOW TO AVOID THEM:

  1. DON’T GET SICK

  2. DON’T GET LICE

  3. DON’T GET DISTRACTED

  4. DON’T GET (TOO) STRESSED

As always, if you haven’t experienced doTERRA essential oils for yourself, I would love to help you get started. Email me at hello@andreanordling.com or click here for instructions on setting up your first order.

(Note: All the products mentioned in this post are available in 15ml full size bottles in the Natural Solutions Kit, or you can get them in smaller 5ml bottles in the AromaTouch Diffused Kit.)

  1. DON’T GET SICK

Easier said than done, right?

No, seriously, you can protect yourself (and your entire classroom) with OnGuard essential oil blend. This blend of highly antimicrobial essential oils is a mighty force against anything trying to attack your immune system…go ahead and do a quickie Google search for the PubMed studies showing OnGuard to be more effective than bleach against viruses and bacteria. It is amazing stuff.

First and foremost, you need a diffuser in your classroom to purify the air and destroy any nasty airborne invaders. Just a few drops of OnGuard protective blend in your diffuser is going to support your immune system along with 20-25 other little people, so don’t skip that step!

Secondly, you’ll want to clean the hands of every sneezing and coughing member of your class right along with your own. May I suggest a really easy recipe for OnGuard hand sanitizer? (You know the chemicals found in regular hand sanitizer gels are closely linked to life threatening food allergies and many other health issues, right? Get that stuff in the trash!)

EASY HAND SANITIZER RECIPE:
1/4c. Aloe Vera Gel
8 drops OnGuard
1t. fractionated coconut oil (liquid)
3T. water
Mix in a small bowl, then add to a squeeze container OR quadruple the recipe and add to pump container for easy desk access.

Last but not least, let’s get some oils into your body to support your immune system as it fights all the germs day in and day out. My favorite way to do that is to fill a 10ml glass rollerbottle (which I send to all my wholesale customers) with 20 drops each of OnGuard and Melaleuca essential oils, then top it off with liquid fractionated coconut oil.

Roll that blend right up and down the spine and bottoms of the feet daily before or after school for an easy immune boost.

2. DON’T GET LICE

I cringe to even write this because it is still very fresh in my mind, even 25 years later, what it feels like to have to sit still while having every strand of hair on your head checked for lice in between vigorous and toxic shampoo treatments.

Needless to say, even the teachers (or their unknowing family) are fair game when it comes to the creepy crawlies, so let’s just go ahead and make a quick deterrent spray as an insurance policy, k?

In a glass spray bottle:
Combine 2oz filtered water with 12-15 drops Melaleuca (tea tree) essential oil
OR 10 drops Melaleuca and 2-5 drops of Lavender
(The 2nd option will smell more like a spa, if I do say so myself.)
Spray on hair before school for prevention OR spray on at night to kill any that might have jumped on board during the day.

I cannot stop scratching my head as I type this.

3. DON’T GET DISTRACTED

You laughed at the thought of not getting distracted in a room full of children vying for your attention, I know it.

Let’s talk about a few essential oils to help you focus, and maybe you’ll decide to put some of them into your classroom diffuser and spread the focus all around. Your choice. 😜

How about a few roller bottle recipes for good measure?

Balance + Wild Orange
20 drops each in a 10ml rollerbottle and top it off with FCO (fractionated coconut oil) then apply to wrists, back of the neck or collarbone as needed for focus

Wild Orange + Peppermint
20 drops each in a 10ml rollerbottle and top it off with FCO (fractionated coconut oil) then apply to wrists, back of the neck or collarbone as needed for focus

4. DON’T GET STRESSED

Again, this is probably laughable, but wouldn’t it be wonderful to have some calming and tension-reducing tools in your toolbox? (Andrea’s mom, Kris, chimes in: “You’ll want to overdose on all of these at conference time.”)

Head + Neck Tension
20 drops each of AromaTouch and Peppermint in 10ml glass rollerbottle topped off with FCO, then apply to back of the neck and temples as needed for head or neck tension

Balanced + Calm
20 drops each Balance and Lavender in 10ml glass rollerbottle topped off with FCO, then apply to back of the neck, collarbone, and/or wrists when anxious or stressed
